Guatemalan artisans working with Aj Quen, a private association for development, create this scarf. Aj Quen works with artisan groups made up of widows and other adults who were orphans from the war in Guatemala during the 1980s. The association currently has 1,100 members, 100 percent of whom are Mayan and 94 percent of whom are women. The association educates its members in social and technical skills, in an effort to improve their way of life and their standard of living within Guatemalan society.
