This orange pashmina shawl is soft and luxurious. Wrap it around you to wear it like a scarf, wear it open as a shawl, or use it as your softest blanket. It is made in Nepal from 70 percent pashmina and 30 percent silk, meaning it is tightly woven and drapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.
Pashmina, better known as cashmere, is the soft fine fur found close to the skin of the Chyangra, or Himalayan mountain goat. These goats live high up in the mountains where the temperature rarely rises above -30 degrees F. Their pashmina provides them insulation from the cold. During the shearing season these fine wool fibers are carefully separated from other fibers of a lesser quality. No harm comes to the goat in the collection of this wool. It takes one goat four years to grow enough pashmina for one shawl. The softness, lightness, and rarity of the wool are what make pashmina shawls so special.
The fabric of pashminas with silk is denser than pure pashminas and also has an elegant sheen due to the silk blending. This silk/pashmina weave was first used in the 15th century, and has been handwoven in India and Nepal ever since.
