These classically designed earrings are made by a skilled young Peruvian silversmith. In his workshop on the outskirts of Lima, Peru, Luis Quispe fashions fine quality silver into elegant jewelry statements and finishes them with a handcrafted hammered texture.
It was Quispe's mother who inspired him to become a jeweler. She comes from a long line of jewelers working silver using ancient techniques. Eager to see her children carry on the tradition into the next generation, she encouraged Luis to hone his skills. She also introduced him to Allpa, which provides access to market opportunities.
Allpa's marketing assistance reaches some 2,000 families from 100 artisan groups and family workshops in different parts of Peru. Allpa also provides technical help, product development advice, skills training, tools and equipment to artisans. For most of these people, craft production is their only source of income. Fair Trade.
