This hand-painted star ornament is created by the Chavez family in Peru. For the past 12 years Jorge Chavez has worked with his extended family to recreate their art of their past. They specialize in traditional Ayacucho style retablo and imagery art. These ornaments are the Chavez families modern interpretation of this famous folk art.
First, the star shapes are cut out of cardboard and painted by hand. Then a gold string is placed between two star faces and they are joined to create a three-dimensional star, which is brushed with a coat of lacquer for shine and durability.
When you buy these festive stars you can take comfort in knowing that you are helping the Chavez family, who are paid a fair wage for their art because they do their business with Allpa, a fair-trade company. Fair Trade.
