OTIC was started in 1995 by Claytone Ombasyi, a Kenyan businessman with professional experience in exporting and marketing. Ombasyi wanted to help local artisans connect with export markets. Ombasyi encourages artisans to consider their products as a reflection of themselves and to use products to share their vision with customers. Ombasyi operates his business with the utmost integrity working with only a small number of workshops around Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
