I bought this handmade, embroidered skirt at an outdoor night market in Laos. It was made by a young Lao Hmong woman, likely with skills passed down to her by her mother and grandmother.
The wrap skirt is done in the traditional Hmong assemblage manner, with a creative pattern of new blue and dark blue fabric, strips of old fabric in primary colors and intricate yellow, orange and green embroidery. Embroidery in bright colors is also traditional.
Black fabric waistband and black velvet piping along the bottom of the skirt. The skirt is not lined, allowing us to see the intricate handiwork that went in to its construction.
A truly gorgeous piece of art, one you can choose to display upon your wall or choose to wear.
