This beautiful necklace is made in Peru of rich olive green serpentine stones. The stones are in natural shapes, wrapped in wire and combined with transparent glass chips and filigreed bands of hand-worked alpaca silver.
This elegant necklace is made by the Tika Rumi workshop, part of artisan group Intercrafts Peru. The name Tika Rumi has a wonderful story behind it. During the Shining Path reign of violence, a priest named Nefteali Licetta helped highland villagers develop alternative income sources. As the story is told, Father Licetta came to the Paucer family with a semiprecious stone and asked: "What can we get from this stone?" The answer was, "Many flowers for a woman." In the indigenous Queche language, "tika rumi" means "flower stone." And out of this, a jewelry-producing artisan group was born.
Peru is located on the northwestern coast of South America and shares its borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile.
