This breathtaking blown glass sculpture is created through an exciting collaborative work between Czech and Californian artisans. The artists combine American and European designs with the finest glass-blowing techniques and traditions of Europe, creating eclectic, contemporary and original art glass. This collaboration was started in 1997 by Pavel Hanousek, a Czech glass artist who now resides in California.
This mouth-blown glass pepper begins with a small crystal bubble which is started by one artisan at the blow pipe. Another more skilled artisan then takes over, using tremendous skill and lung strength to blow the bubble into the shape of a pepper. Meanwhile, another artisan is preparing the pepper's design by blowing another piece of glass into a textured, hot trail. This trail is then wrapped around the pepper melting into it and creating the unique design. Over a period of a few hours to a few days the piece is slowly cooled, cut, ground and polished.
